From Mom's recipe box. Personally, I prefer the darkest chocolate I can get in this. Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar |
1/4 cup shortening, softened |
1/2 cup milk |
1 egg |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or 12 ounces milk chocolate chips |
2 cups flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon table salt |
Directions:
1. Cream together sugar and shortening. Beat in milk, egg and vanilla. 2. In a bowl, combine chocolate chips with 1/4 cup flour. In another bowl, sift together remaining flour with baking powder and salt. Beat dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Fold in dusted chocolate chips by hand. 3. Grease a 13x9x2 baking pan. Pour batter into pan. Bake in preheated 350°F oven 40-45 minutes. Cool completely and dust with powdered sugar before slicing and serving. |
