This is a better homes and gardens cookie recipe, from their holiday cookies booklet. I eliminate the chocolate kisses, as we prefer them without. Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened |
1 cup powdered sugar |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
4 teaspoons marachino cherry liquid, halved |
1/4 teaspoon almond extract |
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 cup chopped maraschino cherry |
granulated sugar |
48 chocolate hershey chocolate kisses |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 325. Beat butter about 30 seconds, add powdered sugar and salt; beat until combined. Beat in 2 teaspoons cherry liquid and almond extract. Beat in flour. Stir in cherries. Shape dough into 1 inches balls. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Dip a glass into the cherry liquid, then into granulated sugar and flatten the cookie. Bake about 14 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. If desired, press a chocolate kiss onto the top of each cookie. Cool on wire rack. |
