From Mom's recipe box Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups cake flour |
1 1/2 cups sugar |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 cup milk |
2 eggs |
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract |
2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F Butter two 8 cake pans, and dust with cocoa powder. 2. Sift together cake flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix in shortening with electric mixer at low speed. Add 2/3 c milk. When incorporated, turn up speed to medium and add remaining 1/3 c milk. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla and melted chocolate and fold in until fully mixed. 3. Divide batter between the two pans. Bake in preheated oven 25-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into one cake comes out clean. 4. Cool 10 minutes in pans, then turn out onto cooling racks until fully cooled. Fill and frost with your favorite frosting. |
