this is a must for thanksgiving and christmas, my grandkids have to have my cho. pie every year on the holidays Ingredients:
3 cups sugar |
4 1/2 tablespoons cocoa |
1 dash salt |
4 tablespoons flour or 3 tablespoons cornstarch |
3 cups milk |
6 large eggs, separated |
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla |
6 tablespoons butter |
6 large egg whites |
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar |
12 tablespoons sugar |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
Directions:
1. Mix sugar, cocoa, salt & cornstarch together. 2. Add milk & slightly beaten egg yolks. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Set aside and add butter & vanilla mix well. 3. Pour into 2 baked 9 pie shells. 4. MERINQUE. 5. Beat egg whites and cream of tarter til foamy, then add sugar 1 tablespoon at a time til soft peaks form; add vanilla till well blended, spoon on top of pies and bake in 350° oven til evenly browned about 15 minutes. |
