Inspired by a recipe from Eating Out Loud /deekfa Serve with white rice and a green vegetable of your choice. Ingredients:
2 tablespoons canola oil or 2 tablespoons vegetable oil |
2 1/4 lbs pork spareribs, cut in 2-inch by 1-inch pieces |
1/2 cup soy sauce |
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce |
1 cup rice wine or 1 cup dry white wine |
1/4 cup shaoxing wine or 1/4 cup dry sherry |
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes, to taste |
1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder |
2 garlic cloves, minced |
1 tablespoon grated ginger |
2 tablespoons golden syrup or 2 tablespoons honey |
Directions:
1. In a large Dutch oven, heat oil over medium flame until it shimmers. Add ribs and brown on all sides, 3-5 minutes. 2. Add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, reduce to simmer, cover and cook 45 minutes. Check occasionally, and add a little water if it appears to be drying out (it shouldn't). 3. Remove the lid and skim off any excess fat. Continue cooking until the sauce is reduced to a thick, sticky glaze, 10-15 minutes. Watch carefully, stirring occasionally, to be sure it doesn't burn. |
