Spicy snack food from Mauritius. Ingredients:
250 g split peas |
3 red chilies |
2 tablespoons coriander leaves, chopped |
2 tablespoons spring onions, finely chopped |
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed |
salt, to taste |
oil, for frying |
Directions:
1. Rinse split peas and soak in cold water overnight. 2. Drain thoroughly, and place in a blender. Blend to a still lumpy consistency. 3. Add to a bowl with all other ingredients and mix well. Add a little water if needed. 4. Heat oil in pan. 5. Shape mixture to small balls, and fry until golden brown. 6. Drain on absorbant paper and serve with bread, or alone. |
