This is a stew, not really a chili, but contains elements of both, and is really good with any rice dish and a green salad. It would work well with cornbread too. Ingredients:
about one lb of sirloin, cubed for stew (your butcher can do this) |
one can of diced tomatoes and green chilis |
one can of stewed tomatoes |
1 tbsp of vegetable oil |
garlic powder or, if you completely disdain its use, one or two minced cloves of garlic |
1/4 tsp five spice powder |
one small package of frozen corn, or half a large package |
Directions:
1. Put the oil in a small stockpot over med/high heat 2. Coat the meat with garlic powder, and add it to the pan to brown 3. When meat is browned to your satisfaction, add the diced tomato/chilis, the stewed tomatoes, and the frozen corn and five spice powder 4. Stir till blended, then simmer over medium heat for about an hour, until meat is tender |
