This recipe comes from Melting Pot Potluck. It was put together to announce the arrival of the new pastor and his wife. Origin: Hungarian. Ingredients:
1 onion, chopped |
4 tablespoons shortening |
1 tablespoon paprika |
1/2 teaspoon black pepper |
2 tablespoons salt, divided |
1 (4 -5 lb) whole chickens, disjointed |
1 1/2 cups water |
1 cup sour cream |
3 eggs, beaten |
1/2 cup water |
3 cups flour |
Directions:
1. Make dumplings: Mix with a spoon: 3 eggs, beaten; 1/2 cup water; 3 cups flour and 1 T. salt. Drop batter by teaspoons into boiling salted water. Cook 10 minutes; drain. Rinse with cold water. 2. Chicken: Brown onion in shortening. Add seasonings and chicken; brown 10 minutes. Add water; cover and let simmer slowly until tender. Remove chicken; add sour cream to to drippings in pan and mix well. Add dumplings. 3. Arrange chicken on top. Heat through and serve. For more gravy, add 1/2 pint sweet cream to sour cream. Cooking time for chicken is a guess. |
