Having kids bbq sauce is a must, at least in our house. So the night we ran out, we made our own. Over the past few years of refining, this was the final recipe that they all agreed upon and still have me make today. To save on money I buy the industrial size can of ketchup, that way I can make bbq sauce and refill the ketchup bottles all at the same time. Ingredients:
2 cups brown sugar |
1/3 cup molasses |
1 2/3 cups vinegar |
4 cups catsup |
5 cups water |
3 tablespoons flour |
1/2 cup butter |
1 teaspoon red pepper |
1 teaspoon black pepper |
1 teaspoon white pepper |
1 tablespoon paprika |
1 tablespoon onion powder |
1 tablespoon hickory liquid smoke |
1 tablespoon garlic powder |
1 cup corn syrup |
1/8 teaspoon mustard powder |
Directions:
1. Mix all together and bring to a boil over medium heat Stir constantly as boiling for 5 minutes. 2. Turn heat down to simmer. 3. Place lid on top of pot and cook for 30 minutes. 4. I keep empty ketchup bottles and store the sauce in them. |
