Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening |
1 cup sugar |
1 egg, lightly beaten |
1/4 cup molasses |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
2 teaspoons ground ginger |
2 teaspoons ground allspice |
1/4 cup sugar |
Directions:
1. Beat shortening at medium speed of an electric mixer until creamy; gradually add 1 cup sugar, beating well. Add egg and molasses, mixing well. 2. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients, stirring well. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture, mixing well. Cover and chill 1 hour. 3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, and roll balls in 1/4 cup sugar. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375° for 9 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets, and let cool on wire racks. |
