This is from my mom's Great Aunt Blance Sprague. She probably made it from her own cherries that she put up. I haven't found the recipe for that, but then why would you need a recipe to can? Ingredients:
1 tbs lard |
1/2 c. sugar |
1 egg |
salt, a good pinch |
1/2 cup buttermilk |
1 tsp soda |
1 lg tsp baking powder |
enough flour to mix real stiff |
1 pt sour cherries, drained and juice reserved |
sauce |
reserved cherry juice |
water |
2 c. sugar |
4 tbs flour |
pinch of salt |
1/2 lb butter |
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients and steam one hour 2. For sauce, 3. use cherry juice from cherries with same amount of water 4. combine, sugar, flour, salt and butter, cook till thick. |
