Cheesy Turnips And Carrots |

An attractive and tasty vegetable dish for Thanksgiving or Christmas or any other gathering. Ingredients:
3 cups sliced turnips |
2 cups sliced carrots |
1 tsp ginger |
1/2 cup chopped onions |
1/2 cup chopped celery |
3 tbsp flour |
salt and pepper to taste |
3/4 cup milk |
1 cup grated cheddar cheese |
Directions:
1. Sprinkle ginger over vegetables and cover with water - cook on stovetop until tender. 2. Remove vegetables from heat, drain and reserve 3/4 cup of cooking liquid. 3. Saute onions and celery in butter or margarine until soft, about 5 minutes. 4. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. 5. Add milk and reserved vegetable liquid (3/4 cup of each). 6. Heat and gradually add cheese, stirring to melt and blend. 7. Pour sauce over vegetables to serve. |
