Usually Matzoh Brei is fried. Came upon this recipe for a Brei in the oven. Makes it fluffier. Ingredients:
6 matzohs |
water, to soak the matzoh in |
1 onion, chopped |
1 garlic clove, minced |
1 tablespoon oil |
2 cups tomato sauce |
1 tablespoon parsley, chopped |
5 eggs |
salt and pepper |
1/2 cup cheese, diced, your choice |
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 325°F. 2. Grease a large casserole. 3. Soak the matzohs in water until soft. 4. Drain and squeeze out excess water, set aside. 5. Saute onion and garlic in the oil until golden. 6. Add tomato sauce and parsley. 7. Simmer for 15 minutes. 8. Beat the eggs with salt and pepper in a large bowl. 9. Add the soaked matzohs. 10. Mix well. 11. Pour half of the egg-matzoh mixture in the prepared casserole. 12. Sprinkle with half of the diced cheese. 13. Top with remaining egg-matzoh mixture. 14. Sprinkle remaining diced cheese. 15. Pour the prepared tomato sauce over all. 16. Bake the casserole uncovered for 25 minutes. |
