I've been making this recipe for years. Several years ago my son made this for his high school cooking class. His teacher told him it would never work (too many ingredients), but the other students gobbled up the slices. The recipe is quite adaptable. I've used low-fat mayonnaise and it works fine. I've also used fresh or dried parsley with great results. Sometimes I've used other cheeses in place of t he Parmesan. Ingredients:
1 loaf french bread |
1/2 cup butter, softened |
1/2 cup mayonnaise |
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt |
parsley |
parmesan cheese |
paprika |
Directions:
1. Slice the loaf of French bread in half, leaving the top and bottom open for spreading on the butter mixture. 2. Combine the mayonnaise, butter and garlic salt until smooth and creamy. 3. Spread evenly over the two halves. 4. Sprinkle with the cheese, parsley, and paprika. 5. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly browned and bubbly. 6. Cool for few minutes and slice into pieces. |
