This is from my food preservation group. I think you could use powdered milk and/or powdered cheese to make it even more backpacking or food storage friendly... Ingredients:
2 cups boiling water |
2 cups dried potatoes, slices |
2 tablespoons butter |
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup milk |
1 cup sliced processed cheese |
Directions:
1. Pour water over potato slices. Cook 45 to 50 minutes until tender. Drain and. 2. arrange in baking dish. 3. In saucepan, melt butter and blend in flour (make a roux) and salt. Gradually. 4. stir in milk and cheese (to make the cheese sauce). 5. Cook, stirring constantly, until smooth and thickened. 6. Pour over potatoes and bake in 350 degree F. oven for 45 minutes or until top begins to brown. |
