My mom has made this for bring an appetizer functions for as long as I can remember, and they have always been a huge hit (despite it's not so delicious look)! As an extra added bonus you can freeze the mix and reheat it for later use!
Ingredients:
1 loaf rye cocktail bread
1 lb velveeta cheese (you can use spicy if you like it hot)
1 lb ground sausage (i use jimmy dean and you can get the spicy for extra kick)
1 lb ground beef
Directions:
1. Start out by browning your sausage and beef respectively. While you do this you can begin heating your Velveeta, I recommend 1 minute intervals in the microwave, stirring in between each.
2. Mix browned meats and heated cheese in a bowl. At this point you can cover and freeze your mix if you plan on baking the appetizer at a later date or put it in the fridge if you plan on making it in the next few hours. If you are making it right now you can skip step 3.
3. Reheat your mixture in the same way you melted the cheese, 1 minute intervals, stirring between.
4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
5. Lay out rye bread slices on cookie sheet.
6. Spread desired amount of cheese/meat mix onto bread slices.
7. Place sheet into oven and monitor progress, your Cheeseburger Cookies are done when the rye bread is crisp! This should take 10-12 minutes, but be sure to monitor them closely your first batch through to be sure.
