Petite deep fried cheese sandwiches that were served in the King's Food Host restaurants in Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska. I got this recipe from a friend of mine who worked at King's in the 1960's. Ingredients:
6 slices american cheese |
6 slices white bread |
mayonnaise |
1 egg |
1/2 cup milk |
3/4 cup flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
corn flake crumbs, crushed fine |
oil (for deep frying) |
Directions:
1. Prepare 3 sandwiches, using mayonnaise and 2 slices of cheese for each. Cut the crusts off the sandwiches. Cut each sandwich diagonally both ways, making 4 triangles. 2. Combine egg, milk, flour and salt. 3. Dip each triangle into egg mixture and then coat with the corn flake crumbs. 4. Deep fry at 375°F until golden brown. |
