Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons shortening
1/2 cup milk
2/3 cup (2 1/2 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
paprika
melted butter or shortening
Directions:
1. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; stir well. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle milk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 4 to 5 times.
3. Roll dough to a 12- x 10-inch rectangle. Sprinkle cheese and paprika over half the dough, leaving about a 1/4-inch margin at edges. Fold dough over cheese; pinch edges to seal.
4. Roll dough to a 10- x 8-inch rectangle; cut into 4- x 1-inch strips, and place on a greased baking sheet. Brush each strip with melted butter. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
