Crowd-pleasing treat. A cookie press works best to make this appetizer, but you can also roll out the dough and just cut with cookie cutters. Ingredients:
2/3 cup butter or 2/3 cup margarine, softened |
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded |
2 egg yolks |
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper |
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon sugar |
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted |
poppy seeds or sesame seeds, to garnish |
Directions:
1. Beat together butter and cheese. 2. Add egg yolks, pepper, mustard, salt, and sugar; beat until well blended. 3. Add flour and stir until smoothly blended. 4. Form dough into balls, put into a spritz cookie press and shape crackers on baking sheets. 5. Or chill dough for 1 hour, roll on a floured surface and cut with fancy cookie cutters, then place on baking sheets. 6. Decorate with seeds if desired. 7. Bake uncovered at 375F for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned. 8. Serve warm or cooled. |
