Add a savory bite to biscuits with sharp cheddar cheese and applewood-smoked bacon. Serve warm to bring out the salty notes. Ingredients:
9 ounces all-purpose flour (about 2 cups) |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt |
3 1/2 tablespoons chilled butter, cut into small pieces |
1/3 cup (1 1/2 ounces) finely shredded sharp cheddar cheese |
2 applewood-smoked bacon slices, cooked and crumbled |
3/4 cup nonfat buttermilk |
1/4 cup water |
cooking spray |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400°. 2. Weigh or lightly spoon flour into dry measuring cups; level with a knife. Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl; stir with a whisk. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in cheese and bacon. Add milk and 1/4 cup water, stirring just until moist. Drop dough by 2 level tablespoonfuls 1 inch apart onto a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Bake at 400° for 11 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm. |
