This recipe is over 50 years-old. Keep that in mind when you count your tomatoes (I use 20 large instead of the 36 specified) Ingredients:
36 tomatoes, peeled, chopped |
8 green peppers or 8 red peppers, chopped |
10 onions, chopped |
2 cups cider vinegar |
5 tablespoons salt |
2 teaspoons cinnamon |
1 teaspoon allspice |
1 -2 teaspoon clove |
1 teaspoon celery seed |
1 teaspoon mustard seeds |
1 1/4 cups sugar |
Directions:
1. Cook all ingredients, except sugar, over low heat, stirring often, until nearly thick enough, about 3 - 5 hours. Then add sugar. Stir regularly until thickened. 2. Can according to the Joy of Cooking. |
