Carrot Cake With Brown Sugar Sauce

Have not tried this..but hoped it would be moist with the carrots and apples in it...the sauce sounded intriguing, different that cream cheese topping
Ingredients:
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup vegetable shortening
2 large eggs
3 cups apples, grated
1 cup carrot, grated
4 cups boiling water
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon nutmeg
4 cups boiling water
Directions:
1. Cream butter, shortening and eggs, beat till fluffy -
2. Mix in apple and carrot.
3. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mizture.
4. Bake in a greased 13x9 pan - at 350* for 30-45 minutes.until toothpick tests clean when inserted near the center -
5. May be served warm or cold.
6. to prepare BROWN SUGAR SAUCE:.
7. Boil water in a seperate pan - Mix sugar and cornstarch in another pan and add boiling water slowly, bring to a boil.
8. Stirring constantly for 5 minutes.
9. Remove from heat and add vanilla.butter and nutmeg.
10. Serve warm, ovr carrot cake.
