This recipe came from my step-grandmother. She was a very southern lady who used this recipe since 1930 from Pillsbury Flour Co. I've eaten lots of oatmeal cookies, but never tasted one quite like this. I think it is yummy. I'm not sure how many cookies this makes, but my guess is 2 - 3 dozen, depending on the size spoon used to drop the batter. Ingredients:
1 cup shortening |
1 cup sugar |
2 eggs |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
4 tablespoons milk |
2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon allspice |
2 cups oatmeal |
1/2 cup raisins (optional) |
1 cup pecans, chopped (optional) |
Directions:
1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Cream shortening (I use butter flavored Crisco) and sugar together. 3. Add eggs and vanilla to mixture. 4. dissolve baking soda in the milk and add to mixture. 5. Sift together flour, salt, cinnamon and allspice. Add to sugar mixture. 6. Add oatmeal, pecans and raisins. 7. Drop by Tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. 8. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minute. |
