They won't even know it's carob. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter |
1 egg |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 teaspoon orange peel |
1 teaspoon lemon peel |
1 cup pitted chopped dates |
1/3 cup chatfield carob powder |
1 cup rolled oats |
1/2 cup pastry flour |
1/2 cup wheat germ |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice |
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/3 cup milk |
Directions:
1. Combine butter and egg and beat well. Add vanilla, orange peel, lemon peel, dates and carob powder and combine thoroughly. 2. In a separate bowl, stir together oats, flour, wheat germ, baking powder and three spices. Combine the two mixes, add milk and beat until blended. 3. Spread batter in a 10x12 inch rimmed baking dish. Sprinkle with carob chips or nuts. Bake 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Cool on rack. Cut into squares. |
