Since the taste of chocolate triggers the release of opiates in the brain, causing release of dopamine, some people choose to avoid it. This recipe is adapted from the one in Breaking the Food Seduction: The Hidden Reasons Behind Food Cravings-And 7 Steps to End Them Naturally by Neal Barnard, M.D., founder of the Physician's Committee For Responsible Medicine ( ). Ingredients:
2 tablespoons carob powder (unsweetened) |
1/4 teaspoon cornstarch |
6 -8 ounces unsweetened soymilk |
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract |
sugar or another sweetener, to taste |
Directions:
1. In a small saucepan, whisk together dry ingredients. 2. Gradually add soy milk to keep mixture smooth. 3. Heat, stirring often, until hot. 4. Stir in vanilla. 5. Add a natural sweetener to taste, if desired. |
