Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup shreds of wheat bran cereal |
1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese |
1 1/2 teaspoons caraway seeds |
1/3 cup shortening |
3/4 cup buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, and salt; stir well. Add cereal, cheese, and caraway seeds, stirring well. Cut in shortening. Sprinkle buttermilk evenly over flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. 2. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 4 to 6 times. 3. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 1 3/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 450° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned. |
