Beer lends its yeasty flavour to a loaf raised with baking powder and baking soda. The caraway seeds create an amazing aroma and add a lot of flavour to this bread. I've never made bread before and was able to pull this one off without a hitch! Read more ! It's definitely a family favourite. Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour |
1/4 cup granulated sugar |
1 tbsp baking powder |
1-1/2 tsp salt |
1 tsp baking soda |
1/4 cup butter |
4 tsp caraway seeds |
2 eggs |
3/4 cup buttermilk |
3/4 cup beer |
Directions:
1. In large bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda.With pastry blender or two knives, cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in caraway seeds. 2. In separate bowl, beat together eggs, buttermilk and beer; add to flour mixture all at once, stirring with fork to make soft dough. 3. Turn out dough onto lightly floured surface; knead lightly about 10 times. Shape dough into oval to fit into greased 9 x 5 -inch (2L) loaf pan. 4. With serrated knife, cut shallow slash lengthwise down center. 5. Bake in center of 350*F (180*C) oven for 1 to 1-1/4 hours or until golden brown and cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. 6. Remove from pan; let cool on rack. 7. Makes 1 loaf, 12 slices. |
