This is my guess at a now deceased relative's frosting she made without a recipe. She gave me her method and approximate amounts many many years ago, and when I make it, it tastes just like hers. She would frost half a two-layer cake with this and the other half with chocolate for birthday gatherings so you would have a choice of flavors. Read more . Either use this recipe for a small 8x8 or 9x9 sheetcake or double the recipe for a two layer cake. You need to spread it on thick not thin! Ingredients:
3/4 stick butter |
1 - 1 1/2 cups brown sugar (i like dark brown) |
1/4+ cup milk |
1/2-3/4 box 10x sugar |
1 tsp vanilla |
Directions:
1. Put butter in pan on top of stove. 2. Add about 1, up to 1 1/2 cups brown sugar. 3. Use low to medium low heat. 4. After it melts, stir in 1/4 cup milk. 5. Bring to a hard boil and let it boil 1 minute or up to 2 minutes but NO LONGER or it will set up too hard. 6. Take off heat and pour over about 1/2 up to 3/4 box (1 pound box) of 10X sugar. 7. Beat well. 8. Beat in 1 tsp vanilla. 9. If too thick, add more milk. |
