CANDY CANE COOKIES This is a recipe I obtained from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Jennet Estate in Allen, Texas in 1983. Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter softened |
1/2 cup shortening |
1 cup powdered sugar |
1 egg |
1-1/2 teaspoons almond extract |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
2-1/2 cups flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. 2. Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg and flavorings then blend in dry ingredients. 3. Divide dough in half and blend food coloring into one half. 4. Shape 1 teaspoon dough from each half into 4” rope. 5. For smooth even ropes roll back and forth on lightly floured board. 6. Place ropes side by side then press together lightly and twist. 7. Complete cookies one at a time. 8. Place on ungreased baking sheet then curl top of cookie down to form handle of cane. 9. Bake 9 minutes then remove from baking sheets. |
