My grandma used to make these for Christmas, every year, when I was a kid. I hadn't had them since, and recently thought about them, so I set out to find a recipe! They are so good, and bring back good memories. Ingredients:
1 cups water |
1 cup sugar |
1 cup red-hot candies |
6 medium tart apples - peeled, cored, and halved |
fresh mint |
Directions:
1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, bring water, sugar and candies to a boil, stirring constantly until sugar and candies are dissolved. 2. Reduce heat; carefully add apples. 3. Cook, uncovered, until apples are tender, about 8 minutes. 4. With a slotted spoon, transfer apples to a serving dish; pour syrup over apples. 5. Serve warm or chilled. 6. Garnish with mint if desired. |
