CANADIAN APPLE KUCHEN This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Shelton Estate in Arlington, Texas in 1992. Ingredients:
2 cups sifted flour |
1/4 teaspoon baking powder |
6 tablespoon butter |
1/3 cup golden raisins |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
2 egg yolks |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
2 tablespoon sugar |
5 cooking apples |
3/4 cup sugar |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1 cup sour cream |
Directions:
1. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and 2 tablespoons sugar. 2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles cornmeal. 3. Pile into ungreased 8 square cake pan and pat even layer over bottom and halfway up sides. 4. Pare and slice apples thin and arrange in pastry shell then sprinkle raisins over apples. 5. Combine sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and sprinkle over top then bake at minutes at 400. 6. Beat egg yolks slightly and blend in sour cream then pour over apple mixture spreading evenly. 7. Bake 30 minutes longer then serve warm. |
