These are my favorite cabbage rolls and what a bonus to put them in the crock pot before I go to work and dinner is ready when I get home. You can make them the night before and keep refrigerated until morning. Ingredients:
1 head cabbage |
1 (16 ounce) can tomatoes |
1 (16 ounce) can sauerkraut |
1 cup water |
1 lb pork sausage |
1 lb ground beef |
1 egg |
1 medium onion, chopped |
1/3 cup rice (i use minute rice) |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
Directions:
1. Remove leaves from cabbage (10+). 2. Place these in kettle with small amount of boiling water. 3. Cover and steam for 5 minutes. 4. Mix sausage, beef, salt, egg, rice, and onion together. 5. Shape into 10-12 balls and roll each on in a cabbage leaf. 6. Place into crock pot, pour on the sauerkraut, tomatoes and water. 7. Sprinkle on salt. 8. Cover and cook on low 7-8 hours. 9. Can be baked in a casserole dish in the oven for 2 hours at 300. |
