This is my grandma's recipe. It's from the St. Boniface Centennial Cookbook from Stuart, Nebraska. Easy to throw together for a main dish or a side dish. You can use more or less cabbage if you would like. My oma's recipe says 1 small head of cabbage. Ingredients:
4 slices bacon |
1/2 lb wide egg noodles |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
4 cups cabbage (sliced or shredded) |
4 tablespoons butter (or oleo) |
1 teaspoon sugar |
1 pinch pepper (about 1/8 tsp.) |
Directions:
1. Fry bacon and remove from pan. Chop or crumble and set aside. 2. Add cabbage to drippings. Cook until tender. 3. Cook noodles following the package specifications. Drain and add to cabbage. 4. Add bacon, salt, pepper, sugar and butter. 5. Put into casserole dish and bake for 20 minutes at 325 degrees F. |
