BUTTERNUT SQUASH WITH APPLES This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Marcus Estate in Greenville, Texas in 1994. Ingredients:
5 pounds butternut squash |
4 apples |
1/2 cup butter melted |
1 cup brown sugar packed |
2 tablespoons flour |
2 teaspoons salt |
1 teaspoon mace |
cooking spray |
Directions:
1. Cut squash in half then remove seeds and fibers and pare then cut in 1/2 slices. 2. Pare and core apples then cut in 1/2 slices. 3. Combine melted butter, sugar, flour, salt and mace. 4. Layer 1/2 of the squash in bottom of liner which has been well sprayed. 5. Top with 1/2 of the apple slices and 1/2 of the sugar mixture then repeat layers. 6. Place in base then cover and cook on low for 7 hours or on high for 3-1/2 hours. |
