buttermilk spice doughnuts |
1 c sugar |
2 eggs; well beaten |
1/4 c soft shortening |
4 c flour |
2 ts baking powder |
1 ts baking soda |
1/2 ts salt |
1/4 ts nutmeg |
1 c buttermilk |
gradually add sugar to eggs, beating well after |
each addition. beat in shortening. sift together |
dry ingredients. add to sugar mixture alternately |
with buttermilk, mixing well after each addition. |
chill dough. turn dough onto floured pastry cloth |
or board. knead 3-4 times to form a ball. cut in |
half. roll each half about 1/3 thick and cut with |
a sharp cutter. fry in hot fat. |
