Ingredients:

1 c butter |
1 c water |
2 t baking cocoa |
2 c all-purpose flour |
2 c sugar |
1 t baking powder |
1 t baking soda |
1/2 t salt |
1/2 c buttermilk |
1 t vanilla extract |
2 eggs |
frosting |
3 t butter |
2 t baking cocoa |
3 c confectioners' sugar |
1 t vanilla extract |
1/8 t salt |
3 to 4 t milk or whipping cream |
Directions:
1. In a saucepan, bring butter, water and cocoa to a boil. 2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. 3. Add cocoa mixture; mix well. 4. Combine buttermilk and vanilla; add to batter and mix well. 5. Beat in eggs. 6. Pour into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. x 2-in. baking pan. 7. Bake at 350° for 23-27 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. 8. FROSTING: 9. In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook and stir butter and cocoa until smooth. 10. Remove from the heat. 11. In a small mixing bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, vanilla and salt. 12. Add cocoa mixture and enough milk until frosting reaches desired consistency. 13. Frost cake. |
