There are several restaurants across the country who have had a secret sauce: Bob's, Big Boy, Goff's, McDonalds, etc., and they are all basically a variation of 1000 Island Dressing. Somehow the copycat recipes for these restaurants don't really work for me, plus I wanted something kids would love and not refuse to eat because of what's in it. The trick, I guess, is not to have anything they can see to be picky about. And this sauce is just great on a wedge of lettuce. Ingredients:
1 cup mayonnaise |
1/4 cup chili sauce (heinz) |
1/2 tablespoon sliced manzanilla olives |
1 teaspoon sweet relish |
3 scallions, chopped, white and some green parts |
1 dash worcestershire sauce |
1 dash salt |
1 dash pepper |
milk |
tabasco sauce |
Directions:
1. Place everything in a blender. If it's difficult to blend, add a bit of milk. Blend until smooth. Best if refrigerated for a half day or so. |
