There's always a flurry of activity around the snack bar in my kitchen, especially when I set out a plate of these brownies. Topped with a fluffy chocolaty frosting, they really live up to their name.Linda Hardin-Eldridge, Lake Alfred, Florida Ingredients:
1 cup butter, softened |
2 cups sugar |
2 eggs |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
2 cups king arthur unbleached all-purpose flour |
1/2 cup baking cocoa |
1 cup chopped walnuts |
frosting: |
1/2 cup butter, softened |
3-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar |
1/3 cup baking cocoa |
1/4 cup milk |
1 teaspoon vanilla extract |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine flour and cocoa; add to creamed mixture just until combined. Stir in walnuts. 2. Spread into an ungreased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 23-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. 3. For frosting, in a small bowl, beat butter until fluffy. Beat in the confectioners' sugar, cocoa, milk and vanilla until smooth. Spread over brownies. Cut into bars. Yield: 2 dozen. |
