Basic bar cookies made special with brown butter and salt. Delicious on their own, but also a blank slate for endless additions: butterscotch chips, chocolate chips, toffee, etc. Ingredients:
1 cup butter, at room temperature, divided |
2 eggs, at room temperature |
2 cups packed brown sugar |
1 tablespoon vanilla extract |
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F Lightly grease a 9 x 13 inch pan. 2. Brown 1/2 cup butter over low-medium heat until light brown and nutty (approximately 15 minutes). 3. Beat together brown butter, remaining 1/2 room temperature butter, sugar, egg and vanilla until smooth. 4. Sift together flour, baking powder and 1 tsp salt and stir into wet ingredients until blended. 5. Spread into pan. Evenly sprinkle remaining 1 tsp salt over top. 6. Bake 25-30 minutes or until toothpick comes out moist and clean. 7. Cool slightly. While still warm, cut into bars with a sharp knife. |
