I clipped this from a magazine. Posting it here so I wont loose it. Haven't tried it yet. If someone makes it please don't forget to review or drop me a line and let me know how it turned out! =) Ingredients:
2 cups whole wheat flour |
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1 1/2 cups wheat bran |
1 cup wheat germ |
1 1/2 teaspoons salt |
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda |
1/2 butter stick |
2 1/4 cups buttermilk |
Directions:
1. Heat a baking sheet in a 350°F oven. 2. In a large bowl, stir together the whole wheat, all purpose flour, wheat bran, wheat germ, baking soda and salt. 3. Using your fingers, rub the stick of butter into the flour. 4. Stir in buttermilk. 5. Knead 5-6 times and shape into a ball. 6. Flatten to a 9-inch disk. 7. Remove baking sheet from oven and place loaf in center. 8. Cut an X about 1/2 inch deep across disk. 9. Bake 1 hour, rotating pan once halfway through baking. 10. Transfer to wire rack; cover with a clean kitchen towel. 11. Let stand 1 hour before slicing. |
