Ingredients:
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon shortening, melted
vegetable oil
Directions:
1. Beat egg in a medium mixing bowl until light and frothy; add milk, mixing well. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a small mixing bowl; stir well. Sift dry ingredients together; add to egg mixture, beating well. Stir in melted shortening.
2. Drop mixture by tablespoonfuls into deep hot oil (375°). Fry until puffs are golden brown, turning once. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
