An excellent bread for brunch or special occasions kneaded with milk and butter and filled with sunflower seeds Ingredients:
for the dough |
500 gr. mutligrain flour |
500 gr. durum wheat flour (strong) |
100 gr. butter |
1 tsp sugar |
1/2 tsp salt |
1 egg |
50 gr active yeast or 8 gr. dry |
1 cup warm milk |
1 cup sunflower grains raw cored |
for the garnish |
2 tbs sesame seeds |
2 tbs evaporated (canned) milk |
Directions:
1. Melt the yeast with the warm milk (at 50 C. that is a temperature tolerable at our hands). 2. On a working surface, mix the flours with sugar and salt, make a well in the center and mix the egg beating it with a fork, mixing it gradually with the flour. 3. Add the melt yeast mixture and work the dough folding gradually the butter. 4. Knead the dough for 7-8 mins adding the sunflower grains. 5. Put the dough in a large greased bowl, cover with a wet towel and let it rise in a warm place for approx. 2 hours until it has doubled its size. 6. Split the dough in 3 equal pieces and make cylinders from each , then plaid them in a braid that you will roll as a round. 7. Put it in a baking tray and let it rise for 1 hour. 8. Brush with the evaporated milk and sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 C. for 45-50 mins. |
