Bread Machine Buttermilk and Honey Wheat Bread |

This is one of my favorites. The recipe came from Eagle Mills. If you don't have buttermilk, you can substitute 1 cup milk plus 1 teaspoon cider vinegar, and let it sit about 10 minutes before using. You can also add 4 tbs. buttermilk powder to the dry ingredients and substitute water for the buttermilk. I have also used plain all-purpose flour with excellent results. Ingredients:
1 cup buttermilk, plus |
1 tablespoon buttermilk (at room temperature) |
2 tablespoons honey |
1 tablespoon butter or 1 tablespoon margarine, at room temperature, cut into small pieces |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
2 1/2 cups bread flour |
1/2 cup whole wheat flour |
1 teaspoon yeast |
Directions:
1. Put all ingredients in bread machine for 1 1/2 lb. 2. loaf in the order suggested by the manufacturer. 3. Bake using whole wheat cycle. |
