GGrandma Cora Deely's recipe for bread and butter pickles. Ingredients:
1 quart sliced cucumber |
1 bell pepper, chopped |
1 cup sugar |
3 cloves |
1 slice onion |
1 teaspoon turmeric powder |
1 teaspoon mustard seeds |
1 teaspoon celery seed |
1 1/2 cups vinegar |
1/2 cup salt (for soaking cucumbers) |
Directions:
1. Let cucumbers stand in salted water (about 1/2 cup) for 2 or more hours. 2. Drain and rinse. 3. Stir all dry ingredients together. 4. Add vinegar. 5. Pour over cucumber and bell peppers. 6. Boil 5 minutes. Pack in jars. |
