In our part of the country a sandwich is called a sarmy . This sandwich toasted over the coals is a must as a side dish at a South African braai. Very simple. The addition of a light touch of chutney gives it a completely different twist - but considered sacrilege by the traditionalists. Ingredients:
2 slices white bread |
cheese |
onion |
tomato |
salt & pepper |
butter |
Directions:
1. Butter the bread on one side - thickness to your taste 2. Place slice of bread buttered side down 3. Dress sandwich with sliced cheese, sliced tomato and sliced onion 4. Place second slice of bread buttered side up 5. Barbeque bread over low heat. Take care not to burn - this happens very quickly if the buttered sides are inside |
