Don't even look at this if you're on a diet. My friend Catrina showed me how to make this. There wasn't a written-down recipe; she just chucked in a handful of this, a bit of that, etc. I wrote it down as best I could, and I made it successfully at least once, so I think it must be fairly hard to go wrong with it despite the non-existent measurements! Read more ! If you're feeling confident, just wing it! (It's yet another thing I can't have any more so you guys may as well have the recipe...) Ingredients:
2 large lumps of butter - i reckon about 2-3oz. total, but that's a guesstimate |
2 bananas, cut in half lengthways, then cut in half again crosswise |
a good handful of brown sugar (average woman's hand size) |
some sweetened condensed milk - a good 'glug |
some vanilla essence |
some brandy (you can leave out the booze if that's not your thing.) |
Directions:
1. Take a good stout heavy-bottomed non-stick frying pan. 2. In it, melt the butter over a fairly high heat. 3. Put in the bananas and fry a minute or so. 4. Throw in the sugar, and allow it to melt into the butter. It should start to turn to caramel. Keep it moving. 5. Add in some condensed milk and a few drops of vanilla. 6. Add a splash of brandy if that's your thing. 7. When it looks like bananas covered in toffee sauce, serve it up with ice-cream and heavy cream. 8. I warned you. |
