Ingredients:
1/4 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 cup buttermilk |
1 cup cornmeal |
1/2 teaspoon baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 egg, beaten |
1/2 cup finely chopped onion |
vegetable oil |
Directions:
1. Dissolve soda in buttermilk; stir well. Combine cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Stir in buttermilk mixture, egg, and onion, mixing well. 2. Carefully drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep, hot oil (350°), cooking only a few at a time. Fry for 3 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown, turning once. Drain well on paper towels. |
