This salad mixture is easy to prepare and stores well. Goes great with hotdogs and hamburgers or chicken and fish dinners. Ingredients:
1 large head of cabbage |
1 green pepper |
1 large onion |
1 cup of sugar - divided |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 tablespoon celery seed |
3/4 cup salad oil |
1 cup vingar |
Directions:
1. Grate the head of the cabbage. 2. Put half of the cabbage into a large bowl 3. Grate the green pepper and onion 4. Put a layer of green pepper and onion on top of cabbage. 5. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar 6. Repeat layers of grated cabbage, green pepper and onion 7. Sprinkle with remaining sugar 8. In a small sauce pan bring to a boil 9. the salt and celery seed, salad oil and vinegar. 10. Pour the boiling mixture over the cabbage salad. 11. DO NOT STIR 12. Refrigerate for 24 hours 13. Stir when ready to serve 14. Tastes better made 2 to 3 days ahead of time. |
