This chilled, berry-topped custard was another winner of top honors in our kitchens. Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar |
1/3 cup all-purpose flour |
dash of salt |
4 egg yolks |
2 cups milk |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract |
1 cup whipping cream |
2 tablespoons sugar |
2 cups fresh blackberries |
garnish: fresh mint sprigs |
Directions:
1. Combine first 3 ingredients in a heavy saucepan; whisk in egg yolks and milk. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, 5 to 7 minutes or until thickened. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Pour into a serving dish; cool. Cover and chill 2 hours. 2. Beat whipping cream at medium speed with an electric mixer until foamy; gradually add 2 tablespoons sugar, beating until soft peaks form. Spread over custard. Top with fresh blackberries; garnish, if desired. 3. Prep: 15 min., Cook: 7 min., Chill: 2 hrs. |
