I LOVE an old-fashioned taffy pull! So do the grandkids. This recipe is EXACTLY as I got it from my grandmother. I don't know how many generations this goes back, but was reminded of it at my godaughter's this weekend when we were standing under her black walnut tree. Ingredients:
1 cup molasses |
2 cups karo syrup |
1 cup light brown sugar |
Directions:
1. Cook to stiff ball just before a light crack. Take off fire & add nuts & enough baking soda to make a nice color. Keep stirring while adding nuts & baking soda. You can mix English walnuts & black walnuts together. This makes it less expensive. 2. Put in greased pan & spread out & cut into pieces when cool. 3. NOTE: I interpret stiff ball as hard ball stage. Don't you just love the less expensive comment?! I never use the black walnuts as I don't like them. Good with pecans and almonds or cashews, too. |
